Ebola Hits Home with Fort Worth Doctor

Since being detected by the international community in March of this year, the current strain of the Ebola virus has claimed over a thousand lives and has infected at least 2,000 more. And with the UN Health Agency claiming that these numbers still “vastly underestimate the magnitude of the outbreak,” it’s important to stress the seriousness of this situation, according to PCS Bail Bonds.

Though without a case directly in the area, Fort Worth doctor and resident Kent Brantly is recovering at the University Hospital in Atlanta after being infected by the Ebola virus while working for a relief group in Liberia. He recently sent an update saying he’s “recovering in every way” and he is thankful for the healthcare team serving him. Another American aid worker is also in isolation at the same hospital with Dr. Brantly after also being infected.

The fact that the Ebola virus has no recognized or approved cure makes this entire outbreak problematic. This has already been the worst outbreak in history and Doctors Without Borders warns that it could last another six months before it’s safely contained.

Although typically found in Eastern and Central Africa, the present strain of Ebola has mainly affected West Africa. Detected in March, the outbreak is believed to have started as early as December of last year. Symptoms of the disease include fever, bleeding, and vomiting and it is fatal in approximately 50% of cases.

PCS Bail Bonds wants to make sure everyone takes some extra precautions in the coming months. Though there has been no sign of Ebola in Fort Worth, no one can guarantee how or where the disease will spread in the immediate future. In the meantime, be diligent with washing your hands, stay away from anyone who is sick, and see a doctor immediately if you are experiencing any of the symptoms.
