Procedures for Visiting a Loved One in Tarrant County Jail

Having someone you love get arrested is a difficult pill to swallow and can cause you to feel scared, anxious, confused, and unsure of where to even begin. The first thing people typically wonder about is whether or not their loved one is OK and how and when they will be able to see that person again.

Assuming all the paperwork has been processed and your loved one has been officially charged with a crime, the first opportunity to see them will be during the bail proceedings. For the sake of this article, we are going to assume the worst, which is either that your loved one does not get bail or is found guilty of the crime they are accused of. Either way, they will be taken to Tarrant County Jail, assuming the crime was committed within the Tarrant County area.

Finding and Visiting an Inmate


The easier and more effective way to locate an inmate at the Tarrant County Jail is to do so online. The jail\’s site will provide a link that will show when the person was arrested, the charge, and the bond amount, if applicable. You may also call the facility, but the Tarrant County Jail is made up of five buildings, so locating your loved one may be more difficult by phone.

Once you\’ve located the precise building where your loved one is being held, then the next step would be to sign up for a visit. The Tarrant County Jail is open 24/7, but visiting hours are between 9:00 a.m. and 9 p.m. Signup actually closes at 8:30 p.m., so it is suggested that you arrive by 8:00 p.m. at the latest to avoid missing the opportunity to be processed to ensure your visit.

Males are able to visit during the even hours, while females visit during the odd hours. Only two adults are allowed per visit, but there is no limit on children under 16. Everyone must have a valid ID; for adults, that includes a driver\’s license, military ID, or public safety identification card, while children are able to bring a student card.

Posting Bail and Other Procedures

If it is decided that the inmate is eligible for bail, posting bail can be done at anytime. Again, the best way to know if your loved one is eligible for bail is to visit the appropriate web site. There, you\’ll be able to see the correct bail amount and the building where your loved one is being housed.

Once an inmate is set free from Tarrant County Jail, they are released from the Correctional Building at 100 North Lamar, regardless of where they were previously held. Release can happen on any day during any time.
